my story

Slider-Med-Conversation-of-3GreenTriangleMy grandmother teaching me how to sew helped me get to where I am today.

Visualizing how things will look before they’re even made.  Planning.  Purchasing.  Thinking two steps ahead.  Constructing.  Altering if necessary.  Doing the final hem.  Enjoying the finished outfit.  Feeling a sense of accomplishment.  Wanting to do it again.

That said, the rest of the resume looks something like this…

Educational:

  • Western Carolina University, BSBA, concentration in Marketing Mgt. with classes in Interior Design
  • High Point University, completion of concentration classes for degree in Home Furnishings Marketing.  Graduate studies, MBA/International Management
  • GTCC, Diploma in Carpentry (honestly, the first carpentry class was one of the hardest classes I’d ever taken!)
GTCC, Construction Management.  All but a one-hour class, Internship.  On my To Do List.

Employment:

Career #1, Advertising
Worked for some good agencies. Edited copy. Assembled AV presentations. Co-owned a graphic design firm. Coordinated creative production and visual components for a large photography studio in High Point, NC.

Career #2, Home Furnishings
Design/Sales – Developed space plans and selected upholstered pieces, casegood and accessories to complete. Kept track of the order after the sale (there’s more backend details than you might think!)

Director of Marketing, Furnitureland South – Created strategy culminating in a new type of website…more of a WebMachine, a tool for finding furniture pieces quickly online and tracking orders after the sale. Developed all customer-based collateral materials. Assisted in sales training.

Career #3, General Contracting
Took the classes (3 years.) Took the tests (aced ‘em).  Got the license (harder than I thought it would be).  Listened, learned.  Found I had a knack for the work. Decided I could bring something to the party and not embarrass myself. So far… so good!

Summing up, I think the best quality I can bring to your project is that I have an eye for detail and an eye for style. I’m respectful of your budget. I know how to solve problems and keep things moving forward. And, I’m passionate about doing things right.

Let’s get started!
